My Week 3 NFL Bets
Posted by Vegas Martin in NFL Picks on September 19th, 2008 | 1 CommentSo I decided to place my bets for Sunday. I guess I’ll take advantage of the “half the juice Fridays” at my sportsbook. I’m not too fond of this week, so I didn’t go overboard or anything.

My big game of the week is Denver Broncos -5 over the New Orleans Saints, which I put 8 units on (after the Pats flop to the Dolphins, I’m bumping it up from 6 to 8 on the Broncos — let’s go Cutler/Marshall/Royal). The Broncos offense is on fire and it will be even easier for them this week against a depleted New Orleans defense. The Saints lost their starting DT (Hollis Thomas) and LB (Mark Simoneau) for the rest of the year and LB Fujita and 3 of their starting DBs are playing banged up (all are listed day-to-day). As long as the Broncos defense could step up a little, they shouldn’t have a problem covering because it seems as if they’re scoring points at will. With Marques Colston out for the Saints, it makes the chances of that happening even better.
I also did a 7-unit teaser (to win 5 units) on New York Giants -6 over Cincinnati with New England Patriots -5.5 over Miami. The Bengals have been awful and they’re facing a defense that is 5th against the pass and great at getting pressure on the QB (3rd in sacks). The Bengals defense will also let the Giants score easily. I like this matchup a lot. In the second game on the teaser game, the Patriots D will hold Miami to under 10 points and I hoping that with the Dolphins terrible pass defense, Randy Moss bounces back from last week’s dismal performance (22 yards) and puts up big numbers. Miami gave up 361 passing yards and 3 TDs last week in the air, so I think there is a great chance of that happening. Sometimes teasers bite you in the ass, but I think this is a very safe teaser. Both teams are at home, which makes it even better.
I also put 3 units on the Eagles -3 over the Steelers. I like the way McNabb, Westbrook, and the Eagles offense is looking. Big Ben has a sore shoulder, which means more carries to FWP, and the Eagles currently have the 1st ranked rushing defense in the NFL.
I also did 2 units on the Panthers +3.
Finally, I did a 1-unit underdog parlay with the Panthers Moneyline and Jaguars Moneyline — it pays 7:1. With Bob Sanders out, and the injuries to Peyton’s offensive line, I think the Jags have a great shot at pulling off the upset. With the return of Steve Smith to an offense that is clicking and the Vikings pulling the plug on Tarvaris Jackson for Gus Ferotte, I think their one-dimensionalism bites them in the butt again, and the Panthers come out on top.
So those are my bets. Good luck this week!
