NFL Week 5 Picks Against the Spread

Posted by in NFL Picks on October 6th, 2011 | Comment »

NFL Week 5 Picks Against the SpreadLast week was a solid week. We recommended three picks and we hit two of our top three picks. We hit on New Orleans (-7) over Jacksonville, Washington Redskins (-1) over St. Louis Rams, but missed on Atlanta Falcons (-4.5) over Seattle Seahawks. My overall record in week 4 was 9-7 ATS and my yearly total is 32-30 ATS. My pick ’em league record is 31-31, but Yahoo did not update the Redskins +3.5 against the Cowboys and listed the game as a pick ’em and I took the Skins with the points. All three games were 4/5 star picks last week, but this week, all I have is handful of 3/5 star picks.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS @ NEW YORK GIANTS (-9.5)

I’m going to target the Seattle Seahawks all season, although a healthy Sidney Rice, who went off last week, makes them slightly more dangerous to bet against. The Seahawks made a valient come-back effort against the Falcons by getting the cover, but failed to get the win. The Falcons took a 24-7 lead into the half until the Seahawks put up 3 TDs in the second half while limiting the Falcons to two field goals. Tavaris Jackson put up solid numbers with 319 yards and 3 TDs. I don’t expect that type of repeat performance on the road when a west-coast team has to play on the east coast at 1:00. The Seahawks running games has really struggled and their defense is lacking, giving up 24.2 PPG so the Giants can run away with this game in a hurry. The Giants have had the Seahawks number — beating them 41-7 on the road last year and 44-6 in 2008. The Giants offense should roll over a poor defense when …

Week 4 – WR Start/Sit – Marques Colston, Brandon Lloyd, or Nate Washington?

Posted by in NFL Week 4 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on October 5th, 2011 | Comment »

Question: Do I start or sit Marques Colston in week 4?

Im currently starting Brandon Lloyd, Roddy White, and Nate Washington. I just picked up Marques Colston. Would you start him over one of my starting wide receivers or would you give him another week?

Answer:

You have a nice wide receiver corp. Colston has been out with a fractured collar bone for a while and may seem a bit soft at first. Give him a week to get back to full strength. I’m looking for him to put up big numbers later in the season.

Week 5: Brandon Pettigrew or Jared Cook?

Posted by in NFL Week 5 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on October 3rd, 2011 | Comment »

Question: Week 5 start/sit: Brandon Pettigrew (v. CHI) or Jared Cook (v. PIT)?

Jared Cook seems explosive and should get more looks, especially with Kenny Britt out. Is he worth starting this week over Pettigrew? Both teams are facing tough defenses, but Pettigrew vs. Chicago seems like the better match up.

Answer:

I would keep Jared Cook on the bench for 1 more week just to be safe.

NFL Week 5 Survivor Pool Pick: New York Giants

Posted by in NFL Survivor Pool Picks on October 2nd, 2011 | Comment »

NFL Week 5 Survivor Pool PickWeek 5 is going to be a tough week in Survivor Pools. A lot of people are going to be eliminated since I don’t see a whole lot of straight up locks. A lot of these games are up for grabs for either team. Let’s recap our picks so far this year. All have been winners.

Week 1 – Arizona Cardinals
Week 2 – Detroit Lions
Week 3 – San Diego Chargers
Week 4 – Green Bay Packers

I don’t ever want to pick a road team because that just invites upset city. Let’s start eliminating some home teams.

Not going to pick IND, JAC, CAR, BUF (vs. PHI), MIN, DEN, SF. Already took DET.

Don’t want to take New England against the Jets in what should be a tough divisional game. New England vs. Kansas City is a week 11 lock if you want to save the Pats for a late-season lock. New England’s next three are DAL, @PIT, and NYG, and I’ll pass on those until KC.

Can’t take Atlanta over Green Bay. Philadelphia is desperate for a win when they face Buffalo.

Oakland can upset Houston on the road, especially since it looks like Andre Johnson will be out for about 4 weeks. Run DMC can win games for the Raiders.

Pittsburgh over Tennessee is a viable option, but Pittsburgh’s offensive line is really bad and if Tennessee wins that matchup, it could be a very close game and one that Tennessee could possibly win, especially if Chris Johnson goes off on a defense that gave up 155 yards to Arian Foster.  I also like Pittsburgh the next week over Jacksonville at home so I’ll pass on them this week.

By process of elimination, that leaves …

Week 5 College Football Picks Against the Spread

Posted by in College Football Picks on October 1st, 2011 | Comment »

Week 5 College Football Picks ATSHere’s what I like for Saturday.  King also posted some of his college picks.

Temple (-8) over TOLEDO — I was debating taking Temple (+8) over Maryland last week and ended up passing since I wanted to see what Temple was made out of. Temple ended up beating Maryland 38-7. Temple almost beat Penn State, losing that contest 14-10. In Temple’s opening two games they beat Akron 41-3 and Villanova 42-7. Temple is a legit program and you should see it this game.

Baylor (-3.5) over KANSAS STATE — I underestimated K-State a bit when I took Miami. Kansas State QB Collin Klein was solid in that contest and made Miami pay with his legs when his receivers were covered. However, the QB to talk about is Robert Griffin III, who is likely the front-runner for Heisman at this point in the season. Griffin has thrown more TD passes than incompletions this season. He has thrown for 962 yards, completed 85% of his passes, and has 13 TDs and 0 INTs. His team averages 51.3 PPG. I’ll take Baylor.

Arizona (+12.5) over USC — USC hasn’t been blowing out opponents this season like in year’s past. The last four contests between Arizona and USC have been decided by 7 points of less. Minnesota alsmost beat USC in their opener and USC just lost on the road to Arizona State. USC is a mediocre football team. Take the points.

Georgia Tech (-10) over NC STATE — Georgia Tech’s offense should be able to run all over NC State.…

Week 4 – WR – Brandon Marshall or Jeremy Maclin?

Posted by in NFL Week 4 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 30th, 2011 | Comment »

Question – Which players do I go with in my PPR league?

I have to start two players at WR and another in the Flex out of the following plaCIN

Hakeem Nicks @ ARI
Jeremy Maclin @ SF
Brandon Marshall @ SD
Arian Foster @ PIT
Dexter McCluster @ MIN

Answer:

Well done on your draft sir, this must be an 8 or 10 team league. This is an easy question as  Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Marshall should be your starting wideouts with Arian Foster in your Flex. Out of curiosity, who are your starting runningbacks?

Week 4 – Need Help Setting Roster

Posted by in NFL Week 4 Start 'Em Sit 'Em Advice on September 28th, 2011 | Comment »

Question: I need help setting up my week 4 fantasy roster.

Pick three WR:

Calvin Johnson v. Green Bay
Larry Fitzgerald v. San Diego
Kevin Walter v. Oakland
Mike Wallace v. Baltimore
Demaryius Thomas v. Tennessee
Derrick Mason v. Pittsburgh

Pick two RB:

Ray Rice v. Pittsburgh
Pierre Thomas v. Carolina
Brandon Jackson v. Detroit

I feel that I absolutely have to go with Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald even though they have had just mediocre years so far to say the least. Kevin Walter has performed well so far this year and the match p looks good, especially since Asomugha will be covering Andre Johnson. As far as my running back picture is concerned, Rice has a tough match up and he’s a going to be playing hurt. Pierre Thomas has a good match up but he also has some injury concerns, and Jackson hasn’t shown me much this year. What do you guys think?

Answer:

Man you are screwed this week. All you WRs are facing some strong passing defenses.

Ray Rice should struggle against Pittsburgh even if he was healthy.

Pierre Thomas has a great match up, but he has some injury concerns.

I have Brandon Jackson so I feel your pain. I’m also afraid that the Giant’s Kuhn is going to steal Jacobs TDs at the goal line.
